Back to work with my Juice!

I have gone back to work today, but let me tell you about yesterdays nutrition and juices too.

My first juice was made up of 3 Kale leaves, 8 strawberries, and 1 cucumber. It was pretty good. Very refreshing. Had a nice energy boost afterwards. Drank it while I watched the Omen. The Omen is a super creepy movie about a devil child and I did not expect to see a Gregory Peck. Nice surprise, I love Peck.

I think did a kettle bell work out and read my book. Same thing as the other two nights.

My second juice that night was 4 carrots, 1 heart of romaine, and 1/2 a lime. This one was only okay.

My dinner was black olives and veggie stir fry of zucchini, yellow squash, and onion. Then I watched a Craig Ferguson stand up special. Pretty funny.

Today, the juice I had before work was 4 turnip greens leaves, 1 apple, and one cucumber. Really enjoyed it. I really like the combo’s of a leafy green, apple cucumber. Always super refeshing and energizing.

I did a kettle bell warm up, nothing too intense.

Went to work. Been working. Spoke to a Bruins fan, which is weird because tonight was the blues vs. the blackhawks.

My 2nd juice is 2 carrots, 2 kale leaves, 1 1/2 zuchini, 1/2 a yellow squash, and 1 orange. It is very good. Tastes kind of like the first one I had today.

There are two things I do not like about juicing. How much produce you have to buy (a ton a week) and cleaning the juicer. These don’t outweigh the positives, but I couldn’t believe how much produce I went through in just three days! I was literally amazed! Gets expensive.

I also took stock of my canned goods. I have a can of tomato soup, can of fire roasted tomato’s, and few cans of beens. Also some manderin orange cups. A can of chicken from my meat eating days, which I thought about donating but would feel silly donating one can of chicken. Should I go buy more cans to donate with it? I don’t know. Part of me thinks, they would be lucky to get this can at a non-holiday time. Then the other part thinks, some cans of soup are like 50 cents, go get some more cans you cheap bastard. Then I think, I’m a cheap bastard because I am poor. I am conflicted.

My third juice tonight will be 5 carrots, 1 apple, and a handful of blueberries. Probably going to be crazy sweet.

I am also drinking tons of water.

Citrus: The Sun of Many Juices

Citrus is a common term and genus of flowering plants in the rue family, Rutaceae. Citrus is believed to have originated in the part of Southeast Asia bordered by Northeastern India, Myanmar and the Yunnan province of China. Wikipedia
If you’re like any normal person, the bitter taste of leafy greens can be less than desirable. A great way to freshen up your juices is to add a yummy citrus fruit. Limes and lemons are favorites of mine, though I usually only use half a lime (they pack quite the flavor punch).
There are many benefits to citrus juice. They have flavonoids that help prevent cancer, the important Vitamin C, and of course antioxidants. To read about different citrus fruits click on this link here:

Oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, all amazing. They’re also great because when you’re juicing them they produce a lot of juice, great for bulking up a juice.
Here is a funny video by Aziz Ansari, talking about rapper 50 cent learning about what a grapefruit is.

And this is my awesome bowl of citrus at home.
Yummy Citrus!

Good info for anyone with thyroid problems.

Should I clean? No, I’ll watch movies.

Another day, and more juices. This “morning” (I want everyone to remember my morning is 5:00 pm at night) I woke up and made breakfast juice. This juice was three kale leaves, one cucumber, and one apple. I’ve made this juice before, I like it. It is green, refreshing, not too bitter from the kale. A great begin your day juice. I get a ton of energy from the green juices I’ve been noticing. I like it.

I indulged one of my favorite addictions, Farmville. If you are a fellow addict, you understand. After I harvested, fed my animals, and sold some things, I decided to eat the last two slices of bread in my home in an egg sandwich. I officially have no bread and no intentions of buying any! I will still eat a hard-boiled egg from time to time, but no more bread.

After my last sandwich I finished a movie I started yesterday, “Something’s Gotta Give” featuring one of my all time favorite actors, Jack Nicholson.

From Wikipedia!

Jack is Harry, who is¬†a 63 year old self made man, is dating Ericka’s, Diane Keaton’s, daughter played by Amanda Peet. Harry only dates women below thirty.¬†Harry and the daughter go out to Ericka’s beach house to have a romantic weekend¬†and Ericka and her sister are there. Ericka is a self made play wright, very successful, and hates the fact older men are always after younger women, I.E. Harry. There is some silliness about finding Harry there, some jokes made at Harry’s expense, then Harry has a heart attack and has been ordered not to travel. Amanda goes back to the city where Harry is left with Ericka to fall in love with her. Add some Keanu Reeves as another love interest for Diane Keaton and you have a cute rom-com with some of my favorite actors and actresses, Reeves not included.

To me, the romance feels a touch forced. Jack and Diane don’t really have too much chemistry to me, but they are both such good actors, that when romantic things aren’t happening the film is very funny. Is a major chick flick. I give it 4 out of 5. Oh, and I would pick an old Jack Nicholson over a young Keanu any day. Jack has so much more swagger. This movie has made me want to go watch some of his classics now, like The Shining, One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest, or The Departed.

After that, I did some yoga, then 50 sit up’s while holding my 8 pound kettle bell. My hamstrings are killing me after doing a kettle bell work out yesterday. Those work outs can really wear your body out.

I read some Catch 22 while drinking some water. There was a passage I liked, I’ve decided to include about the chaplain.

So many things were testing his faith. There was the Bible, of course, but the Bible was a book, and so were Bleak House, Treasure Island, Ethan Frome, and The Last of the Mohicans. Did it indeed seem probable, as he had once overheard Dunbar ask, that the answers to the riddles of creation would be supplied by people too ignorant to understand the mechanics of rainfall? Had Almighty God, in all His infinite wisdom, really been afraid that men six thousand years ago would succeed in building a tower to heaven? Where the devil was heaven? Was it up? Down? There was no up or down in a finite but expanding universe in which even the vast, burning, dazzling, majestic sun was in a state of progressive decay that would eventually destroy the earth too.

I liked that passage. It feels so powerful to me. Sums up a lot of my own thoughts.

My second juice of the day has been made of Turnip greens, 3 whole carrots, and one orange. It is very good, but I love anything with a whole bunch of carrots in it.

Thought this blog provided great advice on why juicing is important and the benefits we get out of replacing even just one meal with it.

Good day ending badly

I did really well today, til my last meal. The good parts, woke up, juiced. My breakfast juice was blueberries, a whole carrot, and about an inch slice of lemon. It was pretty good. I enjoyed it.

Then I went out grocery shopping. Bought SO many leafy greens. Romaine, turnip greens, kale. Then apples, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, strawberries, blueberries…all good stuff. Did not buy any bread, all produce. I did have to walk by a subway and smell the amazing bread baking, but I walked on.

My second juice I want to call “fajita in a cup” but really, I should name it “Punch You In the Face Juice.” The ingredients are two tomato’s, a half slice of onion (not much), half a lime, one jalapeno, and one green bell pepper. Very spicy. Good thing about spicy juices, they fill you up.

Watched some shows on Hulu. Parks and Recreation was amazing. Love that show. Then Project Runway. Also, great show. Bob’s Burger’s. Amazing.¬† Then American dad…only an alright show but I keep watching it for some reason.¬† I hate being poor and not being able to go out and do anything. I get crazy cabin fever. I used to just eat delivery when I was bored, obviously not doing that anymore. It’s crazy how much time food takes up and you never realize it.

Then I did a kettle bell work out that kicked my ass. Oh my goodness. I actually think it was a mistake. I was super shaky afterwards. Then I realized, oh I just did a hard work out that makes me sweat a ton after a two-day juice fast. I took a shower and put some lotion on.  Then I set up a nifty little reading area, where the furniture we moved last Saturday used to be.

My new reading spot

My new reading spot

I also drank a couple bottles of water.

Then I did something dumb, gorged on food. Finished the last piece of lasagna and had an egg sandwich. ūüė¶ Failure!!!!

But now I know that have gotten rid of all my really bad food and just have veggies and a few eggs. I am still disappointed. I have a weigh in next sunday, so if I can juice til then, I know I will make great progress and my body will be thankful for that.

First Weigh In

I was very nervous about weighing myself yesterday after I did not do well on my diet Saturday night. Good news though, I’ve dropped 4.5 lbs. Pretty good for starting the diet on the 19th, that’s, what, 6 days. I like those results.

Yesterday was a complete juice fast day. For my breakfast juice, it was a broccoli stem,, 6 stalks of celery, one orange, and one zuccini. This juice at first tastes sweet with a salty after taste from the celery. Celery is a great addition to juices if you love salt and want to keep your salt cravings down. I don’t care for salt too much, I have more of a sweet tooth, so the salty after taste was not appreciated by me. I was really hungry at first, but then I had this huge burst of energy. Lots and lots of it. It was crazy.

My lunch juice was one cucumber, an apple, and 1/2 a lime. This juice was so yummy. It was very refreshing and not too sweet. I really enjoyed it. Then again, another huge burst of energy about 15 minutes after drinking it. I also drank three liters of water throughout the night.

Now I am on my dinner juice. This one is one big carrot, an apple, and a handful of blueberries. This one is pretty sweet, but I enjoy it a lot. Great after a stressful night of work.

My night wasn’t too stressful til the end. The hotel I work¬†at has a free parking garage, so you would think everyone would park inside the garage with camera’s that is locked. Wrong. Three cars got broken into on the surface lot. Two had their windows shattered, one had the lock cut. One of the cars actually belonged to my security guard. This is stressful because you don’t want the people to come down on your shift, and also, you have to tell your manager cars got broken into. Which leads to the lecture of “security guards should be outside more” even though both my security guards do regular walks. It only takes five minutes to get into cars, and the fact every car on the lot wasn’t broken into shows security was not too bad, or every single car would have gotten hit. The most ever broken into in one night was seven or eight. That was with another security company though. I just hate how they immediately blame someone, when they probably couldn’t have done anything besides get the license plate anyway.

I do feel bad for the security guard. He just got his car back from the shop for hail damage and now he has a broken out window.

Massive Fail

Last night I decided to go out. I rarely have a Saturday when both me and my best friend are not doing anything. It was an epic night, lots of fun, BAD for the diet. Do I regret it? No, I want to have fun while I am fun. Am I as excited for my weigh in tonight as I had been, NO.

We went out to a local sports bar where I know a ton of people. Lots of alcohol was consumed (I know, terribly bad for me) and there was lots of dancing (I won a free beer from my dance skills to macklemore’s song thrift shop. Song is my jam.). It was so much fun. I laughed a lot. What does a lot of drinking lead to, late night eating. Of course not good eating, but lasagna eating. Sigh. Today has been a day of water and juice though. I need to detox after a night like last night.

I am too poor to go out now though! So, I will hardcore be on my diet for the next few days. I do need to go buy some more carrots, apples, and kale though. I may also get some strawberries. I love strawberries.

I work tonight. Working makes staying on my diet easier because I am preoccupied. When I am just home doing nothing, all I think about is food. So, I am off to get a giant bottle of water and juice up the last of my carrots with broccoli stem in it.
